Spotted Willow (Tears of the Forest)
The Spotted Willow grows up to around 35 feet tall and lives up to around 450 years old. Its second name, "Tears of the Forest" comes from its light blue tear shaped leaves that trail down towards the ground. Its trunk is angular and covered in a brown-green speckled bark. Inside, the wood is a light yellow.
In spring, the tree produces thousands of small purple flowers with oval-shaped petals. The have a very sweet scent.
In early summer, it produces red egg-shaped fruit, known as fire egg fruit.
These trees are uncommon and are often found alone in forests. They are seeked out for their fruit and their beauty, so are rarely cut down and used for their wood.
